The Most Important Question Ever Asked
Part V
Who is Jesus? We have answered this question so far by saying:
- Jesus is God
- Jesus is a part of the Trinity (The word Trinity is a non-biblical word to describe the biblical teaching that there is one God who manifests Himself in three personalities: Father, Son and Holy Spirit)
- Jesus is the Messiah (the Christ, the Anointed One) prophesied again and again in the Old Testament
- Jesus was born of a virgin
- Jesus is the answer to man's main problem which is that he or she continually and repeatedly tries to live his or her life independently of God.
This lesson will show from the Bible that Jesus is the ONLY way to God and to eternal salvation. Jesus is not just another good religious leader. He is not just a teacher of good morals. He is the only way to the true God and to eternal salvation.
- JESUS CLAIMED TO BE THE ONLY WAY TO GOD
- John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
- This was a statement Jesus made during the final week of his life as He was preparing His disciples for His coming death on the cross
- Jesus repeated the definite article "the" three times. Jesus said He is "the way," "the truth," and " the life," to show that He is the one and only way to God
- Jesus stated directly, "no one comes to the Father but through Me."
- A person who does not come through Jesus Christ never reaches the one true God
- THE APOSTLE PETER TAUGHT THAT JESUS WAS THE ONLY WAY OF SALVATION
- Acts 4:12 - "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
- Peter made this statement in a speech to Jewish leaders. The Bible records just before this speech these words: "Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,..." (Acts 4:8)
- Peter makes it very, very clear: there is no other way to be saved except through Jesus
- THE APOSTLE JOHN TAUGHT THAT THOSE WHO "HAD THE SON" HAD ETERNAL LIFE AND THAT THOSE THAT DID NOT "HAVE THE SON" DID NOT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE
- I John 5:11-12 - And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
- Eternal life is a gift that God gives us (we do not; we cannot earn it or deserve it)
- We have this gift if we have received Jesus, the Son of God, as our personal Lord and Savior
- If we have not received Jesus, we do not have the gift
- There is no third alternative -- We are either saved or lost
- OTHER BIBLE TEXTS TEACH THAT WE ARE SAVED BY JESUS
- Revelation 1:5c - ....To Him [Jesus] who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood
- Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Romans 10:9 - that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
- Acts 2:38 - Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Revelation 2:10 - Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
- In order to be saved and spend eternity with God in Paradise you must:
- Believe in Jesus
- Confess publicly that belief (faith) in Jesus
- Repent of your sins
- Be baptized into Christ
- Remain faithful to Jesus until death
We have shown from the Word of God itself, that Jesus is the only way of salvation. If you have a personal ongoing relationship with Jesus -- He is your personal Lord and Savior -- then you have eternal life. If Jesus is not your personal Lord and Savior then you are not saved. You are lost. Will you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior the way the Bible prescribes? Will you do it today?
