The Most Important Question Ever Asked
Part VI
We have answered that question so far by saying that Jesus is God, a part of the triune nature of the One True Living God. He is the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus was born of a virgin. He is the only way to God and to eternal salvation. Today we want to show from the Bible that Jesus is coming again.
- JESUS SAID THAT HE WOULD RETURN
- Matthew 16:27 - For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
- He will come in the glory of His Father with His angels
- He will repay (judge) every man according to his or her works
- Mark 8:38 - For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
- How you treat Jesus during this life determines how He will treat you when He returns
- THE ANGELS SAID JESUS WOULD RETURN
- Acts 1:11 - They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."
- The Jesus that lived on this earth, died for our sins, was resurrected from the dead and ascended back to the Father in heaven is the same Jesus who will return
- We will see Him (see Revelation 1:7)
- THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID JESUS WOULD RETURN
- I Thessalonians 4:16-17 - For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
- Jesus Himself will return
- Those who have died in Christ will be resurrected
- Those who are still alive and in Christ will be raptured
- II Thessalonians 1:6-9 - For after all it is only just for God to repaywith affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.
- When Jesus returns He will deal out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus
- Their punishment will be eternal destruction -- separated from God for eternity.
- THE APOSTLE PETER SAID JESUS WOULD RETURN
- II Peter 3:9-10 - The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
- The Lord is patient and is giving people time to repent
- But He will keep His promise
Jesus is the Son of God, God in flesh, the Messiah, who came to this earth, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, was resurrected from the dead and ascended back to heaven. That Jesus is going to return to this earth for His followers. Those who believe in Him, those who are Christians, will be caught up to meet Him in the air and will spend eternity with Him. We don't know when He will return, but we do know that He will. What you truly believe about Jesus will determine how you live here in this life and where you will live in the next life. Are you ready? Have you received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?
