What Do You Mean "Saved"?
Part VI
First Law | Second Law | Third Law | Fourth Law |
All Have Sinned |
The Result of Sin is Separation from God |
God Loves You and Jesus Died for You |
You Must Accept Jesus as Your Personal Lord and Savior |
In part V of this series we shared how to receive Jesus as your personal Savior. In this lesson we want to talk about how to live with Jesus as your Lord and Master.
- CONTINUALLY REALIZE THAT WHILE YOU ARE NOT SAVED BY WORKS, YOU ARE SAVED FOR WORKS
- Ephesians 2:8-10 - For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
- Eternal salvation (being saved) is by grace through faith, not by works but for works.
- When you realize that you are saved by grace through faith and not by works there is a temptation to continue to live in sin.
- When you realize that you are saved by grace through faith and not by works there is a temptation to not do good works.
- Both of the above two responses are wrong and are a complete misunderstanding of what it means to be saved.
- Although works will never save us, we should continually do good works for our LORD Jesus Christ.
- Law four of the four spiritual laws says you must accept Jesus, not only as your Savior, but as your LORD.
- What kinds of works should a Christian do?
- CONTINUALLY OBEY THE GREAT COMMANDMENTS
- Matthew 22:36-40 - “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He [Jesus] said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
- According to Jesus the greatest commandment is to love God with:
- All your heart -- your will, your emotions
- All your soul -- your total being
- All your mind -- your learning, your thinking
- According to Jesus the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself.
- All other Bible commandments are an outgrowth of these two
- The Bible commandments explain what it means to love practically.
- Example: If I love God, I will put Him first in my life, I will obey His commands, I would never take His name in vain. (compare John 14:15)
- Example: If I love other people I will not lie to them, steal from them, commit adultery with them, etc.
- CONTINUALLY OBEY THE GREAT COMMISSION
- Matthew 28:18-20 - And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- The one command in this passage is to “make disciples.”
- I have a responsibility to persuade a person to become a disciple of Jesus.
- A disciple is a learner and a follower (he continually learns about Jesus and then does what Jesus commands).
- In the process of becoming disciples they should be baptized and then I should teach them to obey everything Jesus taught.
- When we obey this command Jesus promises to be with us.
A saved person is a person who has accepted Jesus as his or her personal Lord and Savior. As Savior, Jesus will take us to heaven when we die. As Lord, He directs your daily life. When Jesus is my Lord I live every day the way He wants me to live.
