What Do You Mean "Saved"?
Part V
First Law | Second Law | Third Law | Fourth Law |
All Have Sinned |
The Result of Sin is Separation from God |
God Loves You and Jesus Died for You |
You Must Accept Jesus as Your Personal Lord and Savior |
You must accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior in the way the Bible prescribes. Salvation is a gift, but it is a conditional gift and the giver (not the receiver) sets the conditions. These are conditions of receiving, not achieving! Just because I meet the conditions to receive the free gift of eternal life does not mean that I have earned eternal life. The eternal life offered in the Bible is a free gift paid for completely by the sacrificial atonement of Jesus on the cross.
- WHAT JESUS SAID
- You must believe in Jesus.
- John 5:24 - Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
- See also John 3:14-18; John 3:36; John 6:40; John 8:24; John 11:25-26
- You must repent of your sins.
- Luke 13:3 - I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
- See also Matthew 4:17; Luke 24:47
- You must confess Jesus publicly.
- Matthew 10:32 - Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
- See also Matthew 16:13-18; Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 8:38
- You must be baptized.
- Mark 16:15-16 - And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
- See also Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:18-20
- You must remain faithful until death.
- Revelation 2:10 - Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
- Also see Matthew 10:22; Matthew 24:13; Mark 13:13
- WHAT THE APOSTLES SAID
- You must believe in Jesus.
- Acts 16:31 - They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.
- See also Romans 4:3-5; Romans 5:!; Ephesians 2:8-9
- You must repent of your sins.
- Acts 17:30-31 - Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
- See also Acts 3:19; Acts 26:20; Acts 20:21; Romans 2:4
- You must confess Jesus publicly.
- Romans 10:9-10 - that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

- See also Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:24-27; Colossians 2:12; I Peter 3:21
- If it is a command it is water baptism. Only Jesus can baptize in the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit baptism is promised but not a command for us to obey.
- You must faithful until death.
- II Timothy 4:7-8 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
- See also Acts 2:42; Romans 12:1-2; II Timothy 4:9; Revelation 2:5; Hebrews 6:4-6; II Peter 2:20-22
In this lesson we talked about the fourth law.
