What Do You Mean "Saved"?
Part III
First Law | Second Law | Third Law | Fourth Law |
All Have Sinned |
The Result of Sin is Separation from God |
God Loves You and Jesus Died for You |
You Must Accept Jesus as Your Personal Lord and Savior |
- THE RESULT OF SIN IS SEPARATION FROM GOD IS PLAINLY STATED IN THE BIBLE
- Ezekiel 18:4,20 - Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die...The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
- In the Bible, death always means separation. Physical death is when my spirit separates from my body. Spiritual death (the second death) is when my spirit is separated from God.
- Both kinds of death are the results of sin.
- Isaiah 59:2 - But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
- “Iniquities” means sins. This verse states the same fact two times in two ways for emphasis.
- Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, ...
- Wages are what you get for what you do (If you earn $12 per hour and you work 10 hours you get $120 - before taxes).
- Death is separation. The result of our sin is separation from God.
- THE RESULT OF SIN IS SEPARATION FROM GOD IS VIVIDLY ILLUSTRATED IN THE BIBLE
- In the story of Adam and Eve
- Genesis 2:15-17 - Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
- Genesis 3:6 - When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
- Romans 5:12 - Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.
- In the story of Ananias and Sapphira
- Acts 5:1-5 - But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.
- THE RESULT OF SIN IS SEPARATION FROM GOD IS FAITHFULLY PREACHED IN THE BIBLE
- By Jesus
- John 8:24 - "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
- By Paul
- Romans 3:19 - Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;
- The law shows that we are all guilty before God.
- Galatians 3:10 - For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them.”
What do you mean “saved”? One way to explain what it means is to use the four spiritual laws. These four laws are a simple way to explain an overview of the Bible teaching on eternal salvation. Almost everyone will agree with the first law. They will admit that they are sinners. But most people have trouble with the second law. They don’t realize and can’t believe how serious sin is. Since everyone sins, we all have a tendency to think that if I am better than others then I am OK. But the Bible teaches that sin -- even one seemingly small sin -- will separate you from God! Sin will cause you to be separated from God for all eternity!!!
