You Have Sinned
Every person who has ever lived has broken God's rules and so we are all guilty of committing sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
The Result of Your Sin Is Separation From God
We have earned spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God. It is described in the Bible as being in hell. "But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear." Isaiah 59:2
God Loves You and Jesus Died For You
God sent Jesus to take our place and experience the spiritual death that we had earned. It allows us the opportunity to then spend eternity with God in heaven. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
You Must Accept Jesus As Your Personal Lord and Savior
The Bible describes salvation as a free gift. But even though it is free, God will never force it on us; we have to want it. There are four steps to accepting Jesus.
- Believe in Jesus. Belief is faith, trust, dependence, and reliance upon Jesus alone for your salvation.
- "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
- Repent of your sins. Repentance is a change of the mind caused by a sorrow for sin and leading to a reformation of life.
- "...[He] is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." II Peter 3:9
- Confess Jesus before men. Confession is a public acknowledgement of your faith in Jesus.
- "That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;" Romans 10:9
- Be baptized into Christ. Baptism is immersion in water of a repentant believer in Jesus.
- "Peter said to them, 'Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
You Must Continue to Live For God
After becoming a Christian you should live a pure life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
"They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42
